Spanning six years and thousands of miles, this memoir follows a transformative journey from the familiar landscapes of France, through the high peaks of New-Zealand, and deep into the rugged heart of Australia. What begins as a classic backpacking adventure evolves into a profound spiritual awakening, and the realisation of a dream leading me to travel the Bicentennial National Trail.
Trading a backpack for a pack-saddle, I had to face the raw, uncompromising reality of the Australian bush. Along the way, the journey uncovers the tender complexities of love, the crushing weight of grief, and the ultimate necessity of human and animal connection. Guided by two unexpected teachers--a wise, weathered man met in the wilderness and the horses that demands absolute trust--I learned to forge an unbreakable bond with my animals, and in doing so, found a way to navigate not just the trail, but life itself.
I grew up in France, where horses were always a part of my life, though riding in traditional clubs left me missing a true, deeper bond with them. I never owned a horse of my own back then.
Today, my life looks completely different! I live in Australia, following the footsteps of my mentor who taught me so much. My family has expended beautifully over the years; I now live with my partner, our four dogs, a cat and my two horses. Home is a house truck, a lifestyle that allow us to travel freely from station to station, living close to the land and continuing the journey that began all those years ago.
